Workplace Description
The University Library at Lund University is an interdisciplinary library based on extensive collections of both printed and electronic material. The library also offers a study environment with approximately 400 reading seats. The University Library has approximately 100 employees. Read more about us here: University Library (#).
For the autumn term 2026, the University Library is seeking 8 student employees. The positions are located within the Public Services Department, which is responsible for the library's user services. This includes external communication, coordination of physical and digital information services, exhibition activities, and the design of the public environment.

Responsibilities
As a student employee, tasks may vary, but they should always have a clear connection to your studies.
As a student employee at the University Library, you will primarily work at the library's information desk, where you will meet students, researchers, and the general public. Shifts are mainly scheduled for evenings and weekends, but daytime needs may also arise. The role involves opening and closing the library according to schedule. You will work in a team of eight student employees, staffing two at a time per shift. The work is active, and heavy lifting may occur. Planning for autumn's public activities is underway, and you may also be responsible for guiding visitors through our exhibition "Freedom of Thought – From Copernicus to the Celestial Carnival".
Responsibilities in this position include, but are not limited to:
- Service to library visitors, e.g., assisting with printing, copying, and basic IT support.
- Correct and secure handling of library materials during borrowing and return.
- Assisting visitors in finding and ordering library materials, and referring them to other libraries at Lund University if necessary.
- Reviewing and re-labeling collections.
- Maintaining records in LUCRIS (Lund University Current Research Information System).
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a student employee, you must be enrolled in full-time higher education studies in Sweden, have completed approved studies equivalent to at least 60 higher education credits, and not have started doctoral studies.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability. You should have a good sense of service and teamwork skills. It is also important that you can take responsibility for your tasks and perform your work with care. In interactions with library users, it is important that you have a pedagogical approach.
Shifts are largely scheduled during times when regular staff are not on duty, requiring good ability to make independent decisions within given frameworks. The libraries have a broad user group with diverse needs, placing high demands on professional interaction and flexibility.
Requirements for the position are that you:
- are currently enrolled in full-time studies in Library and Information Science or a similar education deemed relevant by the employer
- have good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- have good IT skills
- have a good sense of service and teamwork skills
Merits for the position include:
- previous work experience in library work and/or customer service
- experience working with the library system Koha
- good communication skills and the ability to offer professional and flexible interaction
Other Information
The employment is fixed-term from 2026-08-31 to 2027-01-17 with a workload of 20%. You will work according to a schedule involving one fixed evening per week and a rotating schedule for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In addition to the fixed schedule, opportunities for extra shifts may arise as needed.
You will work according to a fixed schedule to be agreed upon between you and the employer.

Selection and interviews are expected to take place in weeks 33-34.
Paid introductory training will be held in week 35.
